This position, which reports to a Lead Accountant in Accounting Policy, will assist the corporate accounting policy department in various aspects of providing accounting expertise and value-added analysis to client managers and associates in various lines of business and other support areas. Monitors and quantifies possible impact of proposed accounting guidance. The Lead Accountant will have strong analytical skills and be able to work both independently and as a member of cross-functional teams.The Lead Accountant will demonstrate excellent communication, data gathering, analysis, reporting and process improvement skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists the corporate accounting policy team with analyzing and reviewing transactions and new business products and strategies proposed or developed by the lines of business or other adherence to applicable accounting guidance and internal controls.
Assists the corporate accounting policy team with analyzing proposed FASB and SEC accounting guidance and the potential impact on financial statements.
Assists the corporate accounting policy team with implementation of new accounting and disclosure guidance, in conjunction with the lines of business or others who are impacted, to ensure proper compliance with the requirements.
Assists in the preparation of Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
Prepares thorough documentation to support accounting research performed and conclusions reached.
Utilizes Wdesk for tracking projects to ensure proper and timely documentation of work performed.
Suggests enhancements in department processes and procedures to increase efficiency and/or improve customer service.
Consults with external auditor on research issues when necessary to enhance efficiency of required audit work related to these issues.
Assists with various aspects of the yearly audit.
Develops a good understanding of organization and products.
MARGINAL OR PERIPHERAL FUNCTIONS
Participates in special projects as necessary.
2-4 years of public accounting or related work experience
Working knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and SEC reporting guidance
Certified Public Accountant (or working towards obtaining license)
Ability to work collaboratively with clients in the lines of business and other support areas, external auditors, and other team members
Strong oral and written communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Previous accounting research experience
Work experience in the financial services industry
Master’s degree in accounting, finance or a related area
