We are looking for a Site Quality Manager to lead the quality department for a business portfolio of core motion control products including electromechanical RF/SATCOM pan-tilt position devices, integrated surveillance payload systems, and ruggedized military-grade tripods.
The leader will be responsible for the successful performance of all internal/external ISO 9001 audits, process quality, receiving inspection, calibration, and supplier quality functions, as well as the material review and corrective action boards as required to effectively support the site’s business needs. The Site Quality Manager will act as Management Representative and will be the primary customer point of contract relative to Quality Management System topics and concerns.
What to expect in this role:
The individual selected will lead a group of quality engineers and technicians and work closely with functional leaders to ensure the site’s quality objectives are achieved. The individual will be a member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT) and will report directly to the Business Unit General Manager (GM). As a member of the SLT, the individual will be responsible for the development and execution of a strategic vision for the Quality function that aligns with the long-term objectives of the site and that enhances our reputation for quality excellence. Inherent to this accountability is the continual evaluation and improvement of quality processes execute by the site. Responsibilities will be achieved by building effective working relationships with all related groups, departments, and customers to achieve targeted sales growth.
Here’s what key responsibilities you will be performing in this position:
In coordination with the GM, formulate and implement a site quality strategy that supports long range plan (LRP) objectives.
Oversees quality improvement processes to ensure on-going reductions in Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and escapes.
Lead the Site Material Review and Corrective Action Boards, with the objective of improving cost, delivery, and quality performance by preventing the occurrence/recurrence of non-conformances.
Ensure that quality control processes are appropriate to the needs of the business and are thoroughly understood by all affected personnel. Manage the auditing of these processes to verify their utilization and validate their effectiveness.
Coordinate and investigate systemic quality issues in the field through direct interactions with customers, service and aftermarket, and the sales group. Serve as the technical point of contact with customers on the identification and resolution of quality issues.
Responsible for maintaining and managing the quality management systems (QMS) at the site including coordination of all internal/external audits to ensure compliance with ISO 9001.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the day-to-day shop quality issues.
Receive customer feedback, discuss with responsible work center for the improvement and provide feedback to the customer. Act as the primary quality contact for customers and ensure appropriate disposition to customer quality issues.
Ensure high customer satisfaction by working closely with sales, program, engineering, operations, and supply chain leaders to achieve committed service levels.
Coach and develop direct reports and build coalitions with direct peer group to achieve business goals.
Select, appraise, develop, and motivate competent personnel and assist supervisors, auditors and quality control engineers in their responsibilities.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math or Science or equivalent experience.
10 years of progressive experience in the fields of quality, supply chain and/or engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Experience in a leadership position (e.g. team lead, supervisor, manager) is preferred.
Must possess exceptional leadership communication, written and verbal presentation, and team-building skills. At least 5 years of people management experience including strong competencies in talent identification and development.
Strong knowledge and experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems. Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing/Kaizen Events, Problem Solving Disciplines (8D, 5 Why, fishbone, etc.).
Competent in quality tools and process/production control methods such as APQP, PPAP, and control plans.
Proven experience in successful negotiation with challenging customers and suppliers.
Experience leading or having direct responsibility for supplier quality including supplier selection, quality systems validation, inspection planning, and defect analysis is preferred.
Certification by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), or Certified Quality Manager (CQM) is a plus.
