ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR/SR SCIENTIST - MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY

Summary:

 The candidate should be a self-motivated and influential leader with a deep understanding of small-molecule drug discovery and development, and a strong record of accomplishment in medicinal chemistry and project leadership, including delivery of quality clinical candidates. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, as is the ability to excel in a fast-paced collaborative multidisciplinary environment and the ability to effectively manage and mentor direct reports and external chemistry teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated medicinal chemistry project teams from hit generation through lead optimization, clinical candidate selection, and IND-enabling studies
  • Manage project specific resources including internal and external chemistry personnel
  • Show keen attention to timelines to rapidly advance projects & achieve program goals
  • Plan, execute, and interpret structure activity relationship (SAR) and both lead identification (LI) and optimization (LO) campaigns
  • Identify & develop new IP and lead the preparation of project specific patent documents
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with cross-functional colleagues in Computational Chemistry, Pharmacology, DMPK, Toxicology, CMC, and early development.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certifications, Experience

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry with at least 12+ years of relevant industry experience
  • At least 4 years of experience leading medicinal chemistry projects and managing a team of scientists
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, as evidenced by a strong record of scientific accomplishment and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong track record of scientific innovation and proven success in delivering quality clinical candidates to support IND submissions
  • Demonstrated high impact innovation and problem-solving as evidenced by publications and patents
  • Outstanding synthetic chemistry background and a demonstrated track record of aptitude and problem solving in medicinal chemistry
  • Experience in synthetic methods development, target-oriented synthesis, chemical biology, and medicinal chemistry
  • Experience with IP strategy and formulating patent documents
  • Experience leading both internal and external chemistry teams at CRO’s
  • Experience managing and mentoring direct reports

  • Highly collaborative, self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn and contribute to an exciting corporate portfolio
  • Proven leadership capability within cross-functional teams, either as project team leader or co-leader
  • Contributes to project strategy while rigorously driving data-driven Go/No-go decisions, including the identification of resource constraints and bottlenecks
  • Strong track record in both cutting edge organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry with a demonstrated ability to thrive and contribute in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional grasp of the cross-disciplinary drug discovery process, from lead generation through development candidate nomination and IND-enabling
  • Strong working knowledge of protein-ligand interactions, conformational and structural analysis, and the application of Computational Chemistry, Pharmacology, DMPK, and Toxicology to advance programs from lead identification through IND
  • Ability to champion chemistry innovation and new directions to achieve project goals
