HEALTH & WELFARE BENEFITS CONSULTANT

MEMPHIS, TN

The Health and Wellness Consultant position is based in Memphis, TN and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of various health and wellness programs, including multiple medical plans, dental plans, other ancillary health management programs and the corporate wellness program for both the active and retiree populations.  Additionally, this position will provide project support to include vendor management, communications, training and change management.  

This role requires relationships, interaction and visibility with all levels of the organization, as well as business partner skills that require strategic and critical thinking. The successful candidate will have a strong blend of benefits management experience, communications and change management skills and analytical capability. This position will work on a team, but also independently with minimal guidance.  This position has substantial latitude for recommending changes in procedures, interpreting and applying plan provisions and company policy, and approving actions or decisions that have not been reviewed by a manager.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops policy, practices and financial controls for benefit plans and programs. 
  • Works with actuaries, accountants, auditors, lawyers, consultants and underwriters to develop benefit cost and design information. 
  • Works with managers in developing alternatives in plan design, funding and delivery of employee benefits. 
  • Insures benefit plans are written clearly and correctly, well understood by customers, and administered accurately and efficiently. 
  • Keeps current on benefit trends, industry standards, legislative requirements, etc. and communicates to management for consideration.
  • Participates in defining or redefining the issues and scope of assigned projects, and determines approach and methodology for implementation. 
  • Key stakeholders include management, human resource professionals, legal, finance and service providers.
  • Understands the company’s business needs and HR strategy.

 

 

Qualifications:

The position requires both of the following:

  • College degree of four years or greater (or equivalent experience); and
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of benefits experience in a corporate, consulting or insurance environment.
