Education
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree plus clinical internship in Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Science).
 
Credentials/Licensure
Minimum: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or NCA certification  - or – board eligible and must become certified within one year. ASCP (MT) or ASCP (MLS)
 
 
Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of laboratory procedures and processes.
  • Reports accurate patient laboratory results with minimum errors.
  • Reviews results based on knowledge of age related normals.
  • Is aware of Lab QA issues and works to improve them.
  • In lower workload time, performs order audits or other functions to improve quality.
  • Meets laboratory service goal with regard to stats.
  • Maintains at least average workload output on each bench worked.
  • Uses professional judgment to set workload priorities.
  • Assists coworkers when work is complete.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward change.
  • Promotes new ideas based on the needs of the customers.
  • Supports coworkers in improving productivity and meeting service goals.
  • Initiates positive work environment.
  • Performs instrument troubleshooting procedures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of laboratory procedures and assists students and Medical Laboratory Technicians.
  • Responds to workload needs by flexing between laboratory benches.
  • Trains students and new staff.
  •

    • State-of-the-art Automated Pre-analytical Instrumentation that moves specimens quickly through processing
    • Multiple laboratory disciplines, including Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Cytology, Anatomic Pathology, Coagulation, Blood Bank, and Urinalysis
    • One of the first labs in the country to be computerized, starting in 1979
    • One of the first laboratories in the country to be certified by the College of American Pathologists
    • 10+ locations in the Grand Rapids area where we collect blood
    • All blood specimens, both inpatient and outpatient, are drawn by phlebotomists
    • Three satellite laboratories.
