Job description
Position Purpose: Manages staff in the writing, development, and distribution of communications via print, fax, email, the Intranet, and the Internet. This position is responsible for the informational content of internal and external business communications. Develops written materials and language for scripts that meet standards for quality, accuracy, consistency and appropriateness. 
 
Responsibilities include:
  •  Overseeing the development of content and standards for internal and external copywriting and communications, which may include: news; features; announcements; emails; scripts; website copy; special reports; presentations; or speeches. Content may be for reading, speaking, or interactive (such as a script or programmed training). 
  • Brainstorming and strategy collaboration for: print and digital channels, including website, social media, email marketing and collateral materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Hiring, training and supervising writing, editorial and production staff. Will develop staff objectives and conduct performance evaluations, including taking disciplinary actions, as appropriate.
  • Analyzing all project requests and determining appropriateness of communications, proper communication mechanisms, and project prioritization. Assigns all unit work.
  • Managing audits and reviews of information and messages disseminated through customer service responses, business transactions, written communications, and other media.
  • Developing scripts for providing responses that are complete, accurate, appropriate, useful and understandable. Includes flexibility for handling unexpected situations and referring to other levels. 
  • Ensuring that all forms of media, scripts, videos, written, web-based and other materials are used appropriately for given audiences. Proofing and revising projects – prioritizing feedback and revisions.
  • Preparing content that is at an appropriate level of detail and complexity for given audiences. 
  • Providing communications consulting services, counseling on developing and distributing effective communications using language, style and media that are suited to message and audience. 
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in English or Journalism or extensive relevant work experience as a technical writer with managed care experience. Minimum five years of experience in communications / print production and procurement. Relevant experience as a technical writer in a managed care organization preferred. Advanced copywriting experience and experience with digital and social media channels preferred.
