Our client is a Nationally Certified full service clinical and toxicology laboratory headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, that is redefining diagnostic service provision in the medical field.

Laboratory Manager Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the technical and analytical activities of the laboratory personnel
Negotiate new/existing contracts with vendors
Organize/assign work to appropriate staff
Provide technical and professional support to testing personnel
Check inventory and order consumables for the laboratory
Validate new instruments and new assays
Create, revise or discontinue laboratory SOPs
Interact with government and other agencies (e.g. State Health Department, CAP, DEA, OSHA, NY DOH, etc.) as appropriate
Implement and maintain the standards of the accreditation body
Organize educational/training/safety activities for technical and non-technical personnel

Perform and provide instructions to technical personnel when necessary
Participate in monthly meetings with Medical Director
Review monthly quality improvement indicators' data
Update quality indicators and/or benchmarks as needed
Monitor PT performance and corrective actions taken as appropriate
Perform duties of technologist as necessary
Interact with the reference laboratories to ensure quality of the results
Set up/updates LIS
Approve/Deny day off request for technical personnel, and make schedule changes as needed
Participate in selection of appropriate technical personnel.
Strong technologist skills are required in all the section of the laboratory including: molecular diagnostics, chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, hematology, urinalysis, endocrinology, therapeutic drug monitoring, diagnostic immunology, syphilis serology, etc.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background of working in a large volume clinical laboratory. This position requires initiative, technical excellence, attention to detail and flexibility. Candidates should be prepared to travel to assist in the training of sales staff, accompanying sales staff on sales calls to clients, and educating clients and staff on the different modalities and practices of diagnostic testing, along with education on new test offerings. This highly motivated individual will enjoy working in a fast-paced, evolving and growing, dynamic team environment.

Qualifications and Skills

ASCP certification preferred
At least (3) years of supervisory experience
Ability to read, understand, and comply with detailed procedures that ensure the safety of all
Must be flexible to work different shifts, such as Saturdays and evenings based on the needs of the lab
Demonstrated ability to work both independently, following detailed work instructions, and as part of a cohesive team that together completes daily sample intake and processing in a timely manner
Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties to meet timelines
Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills are essential
