SUMMARY: The Flow Cytometry Specialist will provide administrative, scientific and technical oversight and support to the flow cytometry testing section of the Clinical Laboratory. The specialist will participate in implementation, management, technical support, customer service, compliance, and continual service development. In collaboration with, and under the authority of the clinical consultants, administrative and medical directors, will provide oversight as shown on the organizational chart. He/she is responsible to have working knowledge of the theory of all methodologies within the scope of service assigned and have skills necessary to ensure regulatory compliance, and patient/clinician needs are met, as well as, serve as technical supervisor for assigned areas. He/she will work together with the administrative director and operation manager(s) to supervise physical, financial, and human resources effectively and efficiently and will collaborate with other laboratory leadership and doctoral staff to contribute recommendations for strategic planning. He/she will participate in laboratory rounds and provide technical bench support to staff where indicated and appropriate. Individual will serve as a role model for professionalism and enthusiasm for services. Schedule is dependent on patient and laboratory need and includes on-site supervision of and off-site consultation for technical staff. Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and CMS, is an important aspect of our laboratory's environment. Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Medical Center Compliance Plans. Patients served at Medical Center range in age from newborn through the adolescent period. Additionally, adults are occasionally served. Specific instructions appear in policy and procedure manuals.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science. Minimum four (4) years training and experience in high-complexity testing in the respective specialty, flow cytometry with associated analysis software. Candidate is required to have been certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent nationally recognized certifying agency. Certification eligibility must be maintained for duration of employment.
